Play it cool...Ghoul

Hey

First popcorno post since February 2009. Now that's what i call fucking lazy.

So fuck it i cant be bothered to do that much of a re-cap I'll just start from something a little bit more recent.

So Bristol based 'the bastard squad collective' put on an amazing punk benefit show to raise funds for the annual Bristol (A)narchist book Fayre.

The mighty 80's legends ZOUNDS playing a huge mixture of there back catalog and even some new tracks. Totally amazing and I'm so happy i was able to see these guys play As i would have been to young in there hay day.

Highlight of the gig for me was running into a really pissed up guy outside of the croft venue, He went on to tell me that he has tonight for one night only broken a sobriety rule of 3 years or somewhat for this gig. That's pretty mental but the bit I'm mainly on about is what follows:

The band just started to kinda get things going with a bit of feedback and the above mentioned guy runs up to the singer guitar player and shouts 'your gay!' This frenzied the front man and he just starts power strumming his guitar like really thrashing it and the rest of the band join in banging the shit out of there instruments and screaming 'I'm gay, I'm gay, I'm gay and then they kinda just burst into song. It was awesome coz he was just totally out of it. I think he actually apologized at the end of the first song saying he kinda went off on one then. Loved it :) The band went on to play a storming set of all the classics.

The king is dead! All hail the king.

A little bit about one of my favorite British actors Ian McCulloch star of BBC hit TV 1975 series 'Survivors' The not so well known film Contamination and The incredible Banned video nasty Zombie flesh eaters and last but not least Zombie holocaust.

Survivors

The original or 'classic' Survivors was an 38 episode drama series with star Ian mcCulloch playing the role as Greg Preston. The show aired on BBC1 between 1975 and 1977. The opening episodes were first broadcast on BBC1 in April 1975 and immediately grabbed the attention and interest of the viewing public. In essence, the series concerns the aftermath of a plague which had wiped out over 99% of the world's population and the experiences of a group of individuals in England as they grappled with the post-plague world and the trials of day-to-day survival. Since its original broadcast the series has gained a cult following.

Zombie flesh eaters

A Zombie is found aboard a boat off the New York coast which belongs to do a famous scientist. Ian McCulloch plays the role of Peter West a journalist who travels to the Antilles with Ann the daughter of the scientist. On the way, they meet with with Brian, a ethnologist, and Susan. When they arrive at Matul Island, they find Dr. Menard, and discover a terrifying disease which is turning the Islanders into horrifying Zombies which devour human flesh and seem indestructible.

Zombie holocaust

In New York City a hospital worker is found to have been devouring bodies in the morgue. Morgue assistant and anthropology expert Lori (Alexandra Delli Colli) discovers he was from the Asian Molucca islands where she grew up. Dr. Peter Chandler (Ian McCulloch) investigates, and he and Lori discover that similar corpse mutilations have occurred in other city hospitals, where immigrants from this region are working.

Peter leads an expedition to the islands to investigate, where he liaises with Doctor Obrero. Included are his assistant George, George's eager journalist girlfriend Susan, Lori, local boatsman Molotto assigned by Obrero, and three guides. The crew are hunted by cannibals and zombies, the latter created by the sinister Doctor Obrero who is experimenting with corpses.

Lori is accepted as queen of the cannibals, and sends them off against the mad scientist and his zombie army.

we love wiki

Ian McCulloch (born Nov 18 1939) is a Scottish actor.

He is best known for his role as Greg Preston in Survivors. Though he debuted in the second episode, "Genesis", Greg would become the male lead for the first series, and got to show off his singing and guitar playing in several episodes. However, he was unhappy with the introduction of Denis Lill as Charles Vaughan, a male co-lead, during the second series. He wrote the seventh episode of the second series, "A Friend in Need", and was ostensibly written out at the end of that series. He would only appear twice in the third and final series, in the second episode "A Little Learning" and the tenth, "The Last Laugh". He wrote the scripts for both episodes.

He guest starred in the 1984 Doctor Who story Warriors of the Deep, and appeared in many popular television series in the 1970s, including Colditz and Secret Army. He can also be seen in the lead role of cult Lucio Fulci gorefest Zombi II, released in the UK as Zombie Flesh Eaters. The UK release was delayed as part of the 1980s campaign against "Video Nasties" - McCulloch would only see it years later recording a DVD commentary, and was shocked by the violence involved.

Onto the grub you say?

I'll Leave you with an awesome food recipe now:

Here is a very quick recipe for some vegan friendly Pesto. Goes very nicely with hummus and couscous. rock on. Or pasta dishes for that matter.

Get some basil leaves and some cooked garden peas.
mush them up in a mixing bowl. (maybe say the amount that would fill a large mug.

add some extra virgin olive oil
a dash of lemon juice
very finely chopped garlic (3 cloves)
salt and pepper (just a dash)
pine nuts.(table spoonful)

If you have a blender that's great but you can just mush it all together in a good bowl with a fork.

Enjoy and see you soon. Popcorno webzine xxx
